In accordance with Microsoft’s support timelines, Anaconda will discontinue support for new package releases on Windows 10 and for Windows 11 versions 23H2 and earlier, effective June 30, 2026.
Background
This decision follows Microsoft’s discontinuation of Windows 10 support on October 14, 2025, and the end of support for Windows 11 version 23H2 on November 11, 2025. At Anaconda, we recognize that planning for operating system upgrades can take time. That’s why Anaconda is maintaining support for Windows 10 and previous Windows 11 versions beyond Microsoft’s upstream support timelines.
What This Means
Upcoming Changes After June 30, 2026:
- Anaconda will no longer verify that new package releases function correctly on Windows 10 or Windows 11 version 23H2 and earlier.
- Bug reports specific to Windows 10 or Windows 11 23H2 and earlier will not be addressed.
- New packages may continue to work on unsupported operating systems, but Anaconda will not test or validate compatibility.
Important: Previously built packages will remain available in our repositories and are not affected by this change. Your existing environments will continue to function as they do today, and you can continue to download any packages we have previously built.
Understanding Anaconda’s Current Support
Anaconda performs Quality Assurance testing on Windows 10 and Windows 11 to validate our package distribution, but we do not guarantee that all packages will be able to work on specific operating systems. If an upstream package maintainer introduces changes that break compatibility, Anaconda may not be able to fix the issue directly, though we will make best efforts to work with upstream maintainers on problems affecting operating systems we support and test.
Why This Decision
This decision reflects:
- Microsoft’s discontinuation of Windows 10 support on October 14, 2025
- Microsoft’s discontinuation of Windows 11 23H2 support on November 11, 2025
- Increasing difficulty of obtaining test infrastructure for unsupported operating systems
Anaconda’s package building infrastructure targets Windows Software Development Kit (SDK) versions rather than specific Windows releases. While most packages built against our current SDK will likely continue to function on these older operating systems, Microsoft’s discontinuation of support makes it increasingly difficult to acquire the test infrastructure needed to validate compatibility.
Recommended Actions
For Systems Able to Upgrade:
Upgrade to Windows 11 version 24H2 or later. Important Microsoft support dates:
- Windows 11 version 23H2 reached end of life on November 11, 2025
- Windows 11 version 24H2 is supported until October 12, 2027 (Enterprise/Education)
- Windows 11 version 25H2 is supported until October 10, 2028 (Enterprise/Education)
For Systems Unable to Upgrade:
We recommend taking one of these actions:
- Evaluate hardware replacement to enable upgrading to Windows 11, or consider alternative operating systems.
- Continue using new Anaconda packages on older operating systems with the understanding of the potential risk of operating system-specific issues that will not be addressed.
Timeline
- December 30, 2025: Announcement of Windows 10 and Windows 11 23H2 and earlier end of support
- June 30, 2026: Anaconda discontinues Windows 10 and Windows 11 23H2 and earlier support
Future Windows 11 Support
Anaconda will continue to support Windows 11 versions that are actively supported by Microsoft. As of this announcement:
- Windows 11 24H2 is supported until October 12, 2027 (Enterprise/Education)
- Windows 11 25H2 is supported until October 10, 2028 (Enterprise/Education)
We recommend staying current with Windows 11 updates to ensure continued compatibility with Anaconda products and to access the latest updates from Microsoft.
