We recently uncovered an issue within our Windows installers that could, under very specific circumstances, inadvertently lead to the deletion of files from your system. This issue affects all versions of Anaconda’s Windows installers, including Anaconda Distribution and Miniconda, released before July 11, 2023. The flaw can occur during the uninstallation process; under certain conditions, the installer may delete files from a specified directory without user consent. In order for this flaw to be triggered, a specific combination of factors must align, including uninstallation permissions, system access, and an existing installation of Anaconda.
To address this and ensure your safety, we’ve swiftly released a fixed installer: Anaconda Distribution 2023.07. This updated installer resolves the issue and prevents any unintended file deletions. To safeguard your system, we recommend using installers released after July 11, 2023; these versions will contain the necessary fixes. For those with existing installations, we have developed a comprehensive patch that addresses the flaw and further enhances your installation’s security. It is important to download and install this patch promptly. To uninstall older versions of Anaconda Distribution and Miniconda installers released before July 11, 2023, please download the security patch fix prior to uninstallation.
