About Plug&Pay

Plug&Pay builds funnel software that helps its customers convert more visitors into buyers. Its platform lets users build entire sales funnels, from landing pages and checkouts to upsells and invoicing, using the latest techniques for performance and growth. It is the number one payment processor in The Netherlands and Belgium, processing more than €1B in turnover for its customers.

The Stakes: Fragmented Tools and Shifting Prices

Building high-performance funnel software takes a high-performance development environment. Plug&Pay’s engineers had a fractured one. To get the job done, they juggled Cursor for the front end, Claude Code and Augment Code for generation, CodeRabbit and BugBot for reviews, and Perplexity Pro for research.

The drag was easy to feel. Review tools like BugBot had become a burden, flooding pull requests with noisy, verbose comments. Engineers copied and pasted context into Perplexity by hand to debug Dockerfiles.

The bigger worry was billing. Tools the team relied on had moved from unlimited requests to limited credits with abstract costs and random markups. The team called it a “rugpull strategy”: lock in a workflow, then change the pricing model overnight. They wanted stability, transparency, and a tool that wouldn’t penalize them for scaling.

The Turning Point: Transparency as a Feature

Plug&Pay’s decision to switch to Kilo was philosophical as much as technical. In an industry of siloed tools and black-box pricing, Kilo offered a single platform that works inside the tools developers already use (JetBrains, VS Code, the command line) and bills on transparent, unified usage metrics.

“We watched other tools shift from unlimited requests to abstract credit models overnight with random markups. It felt like a bait-and-switch. We needed a partner, not just a vendor. Kilo gave us stability. We pay for what we use, without hidden costs.”

—Daniël Langezaal, Software Engineer

Kilo is an open-source, model-agnostic agentic development tool used by more than 5 million developers, with the freedom to choose from 500+ AI models. It joined Anaconda in July 2026, and Kilo by Anaconda is now a core part of AI workspaces in the Anaconda Platform.

Trust tipped the scale. Plug&Pay wanted to back a team that reinvests in the open-source community, which matched its own bet that open source will win the AI race in the long term.

The Transformation: “Kilo Is Like Dough”

Kilo became the layer that molded to every workflow, from backend developers building API endpoints to the DevOps team rewriting infrastructure-as-code (IaC) resources.

The “aha” moment came when people started using it, and the culture changed. Developers had resisted AI because it meant abandoning their routine for a new editor or terminal. Kilo worked inside the tools they already knew and found the right context without manual dumping, so the friction disappeared. Developers became AI-empowered inside their existing workflow.

“Kilo is like dough, I can mold it to fit my specific workflow in JetBrains or the CLI without fighting the tool. It doesn’t force me into a box; it adapts to how I code.”

—Daniël Langezaal, Software Engineer

The Results: One Tool, One Invoice, 80% Adoption

Plug&Pay replaced its fragmented stack with a single agentic engineering platform, and it quickly became the standard. Kilo now has 80% adoption across the engineering team, with Kilo Code Reviews enabled on all active repos.

“Before I push to remote, I have Kilo to sanity-check my logic. It catches issues I might miss. Then Kilo Code Review ensures every PR is clean and ready to merge. It gives me the confidence to ship faster.”

—Mike Madern, Fullstack Developer

The billing promise held: one tool, one invoice, and predictable costs. The biggest return, though, has been the partnership itself. Kilo moves at what the team calls “Kilo Speed”: when Plug&Pay finds a bug or requests a feature, Kilo often ships the update within 24 hours, so developers don’t lose momentum.

For Plug&Pay, the noise of managing multiple subscriptions and debugging billing statements is gone. In its place is a partnership that moves as fast as the team does.

“Kilo is responsive to feedback and ships updates at ‘Kilo Speed’. The stream of new features is like Christmas for developers all year round.”

“Before Kilo, I was constantly context-switching and copy-pasting code to debug. It was slow and error prone. Kilo lives right in my IDE and understands my entire infrastructure setup. It knows exactly where to look to solve architectural challenges without me having to feed it context.”
