# Asset deletion

Deletion methods remove an asset and every instance attached to its name from both the asset catalog and the project's flowproject metadata.

Deletion is irreversible, and the catalog has no deprecate or hide state. To mark an asset as superseded without removing it, tag a new instance—for instance, with `tags={"status": "deprecated"}`—and have consumers filter with the listing methods. To remove every asset on a branch at once, use [teardown-branch](/docs/platform/guides/projects/utilities-api/cli/flowproject/teardown-branch) instead of deleting assets one by one.
