# Asset consumption

Flows consume assets with `prj.get_data` and `prj.get_model` for artifact-based assets, and the lower-level `prj.asset.consume_*` methods for external references. Listing methods enumerate the assets available on the current branch.

## Choosing a consumption method

Use the `get_*` methods when the asset was registered from a flow artifact; they resolve the reference to the artifact automatically and register the calling task as a consumer for lineage tracking. Use the `consume_*` methods for external assets; they return a reference containing the `blobs` list that you load manually.

Every read is branch-scoped: deployed flows read from their Git branch, and local runs read from your user namespace unless `[dev-assets]` redirects reads to another branch.
