David Schachter, Lead Analytics Engineer for Business Intelligence at Playdom (a Disney subsidiary), gave a presentation last November about optimizing Python code for big data processing. The resulting system handles predicted data volumes for years and avoids the need to run on a cluster. Continuum’s consulting services contributed in optimizing the Python code (with the help of Cython) to speed up Playdom’s existing big data application through the reduction of CPU consumption, as well as data thrashing/copying. Mr. Schachter’s presentation explaining his success and how to apply the same process to your own program is now available as slides or video.
